Duracell (solo build) Leveling Guide

November 1, 2011

Hello everyone, the Duracell build (14inq/21 justicar/31 shaman) is currently one of the most popular build for soloing clerics. The build at level 50 is well documented, especially in this famous thread here on the official forums.

However, the same cannot be said of a leveling build for those clerics not at level 50. The information is there, but it is scattered. The purpose of this guide is basically to consolidate all the leveling builds into one page for quick and easy access.

Level 10

Build: 10 Justicar/3 Inquisitor/0 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast sanction heretic
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

Buffs:

Salvation – self heal through damage

Cavalier – generates convictions, required for doctrine abilities (heals) in the Justicar tree.

Mien of Honor – Increase heals through Salvation and reduce threat.

Vengeance of the Winter Storm – cause your attacks to deal addition damage.

Strategy:

Fairly straight forward at this level. You use Vex to pull mobs (this is a dot) and then spam your single target macro until the target is dead. You have no AoE abilities at this level so keep your pulls to single target. Use Doctrine of Bliss as your self heal.

Level 15

Build: 10 inquisitor/10 justicar/0 shaman

Macros: (no change from level 10)

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast sanction heretic
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

Buffs:

Armor of Devotion – increase your dps

Armor of Treachery – increase your survival.

Strategy:

Exact same as level 10, except now you have two buffs, choose accordingly as only one can be active at one time.

Level 20

Build: 14 inquisitor/10 justicar/ 2 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast sanction heretic
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast soul drain

Buffs:

Courage of the Jaguar – Make you crit more by increasing your dex.

Strategy:

Pulling with Vex is a must as it heals you for the damage it does. You can now pull multiple mobs, then use your AoE macro and watch as the damage from Soul Drain essentially heal you back to full (Vex will heal you for while you try to get Soul Drain off as it is a long cast). Adjust your buffs accordingly for survival/more dps. Use Aggressive Renewal for mana regen.

Level 25

Build: 14 inquis/12 justicar/7 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast lightning hammer
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast fated blow
cast soul drain

Buffs:

Mien of Leadership – Tanky kind of stuff, increase your endur/armor at loss of dps. Use if you need survival, otherwise use Mien of Honor.

Reparation – this will heal your group while you dps, make you an excellent offhealer in 5 man dungeons.

Strategy: Use Glacial Shield on pull and whenever it is up, otherwise it is pretty much same as before – Vex and then macros. You can now use Purpose to regain back mana in addition to aggressive renewal.

Level 30

Build: 14 inquis/12 justicar/14 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast lightning hammer
cast massive blow
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast soul drain

Strategy: Same as before, except now you have Glory of the Chosen as a heal added to your macro rotation and Ageless Ice as an addition mana regen. Pop it the same time as your Purpose for a fast regain of mana. You can even macro Glory of the Chosen to Vex for a while quick heal if you get critted on pulling.

Level 35

Build: 14 inquis/16 justicar/16 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast lightning hammer
cast massive blow
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast soul drain
cast avalanche strike

Buffs:

Righteous Mandate – put this on the tank to help heal him as you DPS if you are running 5 man dungeons.

Strategy: Jolt is likely to be your biggest hit. It does air damage you have two options from level 35 to level 40. You can either go into 4/5 in the air damage increaser in the shaman tree first for bigger single target DPS or get 18 points into the justicar tree first for even justice for more AoE dps that generates convictions at the same time. Either way, by the time you are level 40, you will be able to get both anyways.

Level 40

Build: 14 inquis/18 justicar/21 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast lightning hammer
cast massive blow
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast soul drain
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast even justice

Strategy: Not much new here except your AoE abilities got a bit more beefer with the addition of two new AoE abilities.

Level 45

Build: 14 inquis/18 justicar/27 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast lightning hammer
cast massive blow
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast soul drain
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast even justice

Strategy: You gain Battle Charge, use it when get snared on pull or when you want to jump to caster mobs quickly. From 45 to 50 I recommend getting the Rage of the North ability in the shaman tree first before finishing off the justicar tree.

Level 50

Build: 14 inquis/21 justicar/31 shaman

Macros:

Single target

suppressmacrofailures
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast sanction heretic
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast lightning hammer
cast massive blow
cast sovereignty
cast bolt of radiance
cast strike of judgment

AoE

suppressmacrofailures
cast rage of the north
cast jolt
cast glory of the chosen
cast fated blow
cast soul drain
cast strike of the maelstrom
cast even justice

Strategy: The author of Duracell summarized the strat quite well in his own words so I will just quote him.

Tag as many targets as possible with vex. Vex should be macroed with glory of the chosen to give you additional healing if you get crit as you are pulling. Use battle charge if possible when you get snared. Gather the mobs up and try to have them all face you. Mash AE macro until all dead; use ST macro if there’s a straggler or two. If you get really low on health use doctrine of bliss a few times. When low on mana, hit purpose/ageless ice immediately after a soul drain for quick mana recharge. If they are on CD use aggressive renewal. You should not ever have to drink with this build.

  1. Nice job 😀 Your guides are helpful in extreme. Thanks a lot.

Just one question: On the AoE macro from level 35 to level 40 you drop Avalanche Strike. Why?

  2. This has to do with the making of macros, you cannot have more than one instant cast, no cooldown ability in a macro because the 2nd one would never go off. (you can have as many abilities with cooldowns as you want).

Avalanche strike has no cooldowns and neither does Even Justice. Both of them cannot exist in the same macro. Even justice can hit more enemies and deals life damage – it builds convictions so even justice is a much better choice here and avalanche strike gets dropped.

    Hope that helps 🙂

    • Makes perfect sense 🙂

      Thanks again

    • Ty for this guide even post 1.8 this build kills in grp and solo play its ur all in one cleric leveling spec imo.

  3. Good work on the guide, very helpful for noobs like me -_-

  4. What an awesome leveling build! Just found this while at level 30 and the change is great! Instead of single mob fighting, I have been easily able to fight 3-5 mobs with no worries. I have had to use mana regen skills as the AOE spam will suck you dry. Really fun! Thanks very much!

  5. Just a small correction, in the macro strike of judgment is misspelled. I got an error went I copied and pasted it. This is a huge help, as a new player I have had a hell of time trying to find something along the lines of this “walkthrough” of a build.

    • Ah yes I alway spelled it as Judgement! Thanks for pointing it out and glad you find it helpful 🙂

  6. on your macros I would suggest putting moves such as Glory of the Chosen, Fated Blow, and Jolt at the end of the macro, this will ensure that they are used off of the global cooldown and make sure that your CD abilities are used on the global cooldown. It’s just a small thing but something to keep up higher dps.

    • Hey that is a good suggestion, I like to have them up top as Jolt is my highest dps and I like to have it up whenever its ready. Same with Glory of the Chosen as a heal when i need. I am curious though what kind of dps change there will be. though with them on bottom.

      • I would say it would only be delayed by how fast you can press your spam button so it is extremely miniscule, I have just been annoyed before thinking one of my ranged abilities is going to go off and instead i get the heal when I’m at full HP xD

  7. Do you see 1.6 making any changes to this build?
I am at 35 and doing fine with this.

Anyone know a guide like this for leveling a mage?

    How about a Dulfy’s Mage Corner 🙂

    • check bluedots, that is the mage version of my :p

  8. This is awesome!! And it is still viable for 1.6 right? I’m starting a cleric tonight 🙂

    • Fore sure, it is still viable for 1.6. Duracell will always be a bread n butter kind of spec to have around.

I personally use this spec for 1.6 to solo Ember Isle, I find it to have a bit more dps for those high hp mobs.

Build of the week: The Elite soloer

      • Thanks! My cleric is up to 16 with this build and I’m having a lot of fun. Thanks for posting macros as well. I honestly have NEVER used macros before so having these for every 5 levels is very helpful.

Another last (and very n00b) question: as I progress, what stats/gear/armor/weapons/accessories should I focus on in order to optimize the build?

So far I’ve been sticking to Wisdom and Intelligence heavy chain gear and using a two-handed maces..and maybe a staff. That’s kind of a loaded question and I’m not sure if you already have something of the sorts on here – just curious though 🙂

You’re the best! Keep up the great work!

  9. Hey, you are on the right track, focus on Wisdom/Spell Power with Chain armor and a 2hander to maximize the damage you do as a melee.

  10. I just recently started playing Rift as a trial and am thinking about picking it up. I just want to thank you for this site and especially this build, it’s been fantastic.

  11. Just a brief question as I just found this and I’m exploring Rift from WoW, and Cleric sounds fun.

Is this *only* a solo build? What I mean is that I would be looking to run instances as I level up, and I was looking at a main Inquisitor build (that’s the RDPS one right?) as I like the “feel” of that.

Is this build viable for instances as well as solo questing? If so what role is it for instances (so I know what to choose in the Dungeon Finder UI)? It looks like a heal/dps mix but coming from WoW that’s a foreign concept to me as either you heal or DPS but usually not both (excluding some very rare cases).

    • Hey, this build can be used for soloing or for dungeons as either DPS or support. It has great AOE heals and can also do great AoE damage. It is a bit weaker in the single target department but if you are just leveling up it shouldn’t really matter.

The concept of doing both damage and heals is something you will find common in Rift. Even in raids you will find -icar clerics who have a mix of DPS and heal cleric souls so they can DPS but also do AoE heal when needed.

Now if you want to queue for dungeons as support, you will need 1/3 of your points in Justicar. so you might need to invest some early points into Justicar for this to happen.

  12. I have a whole new love for cleric! Thanks for including all the stages of leveling!

Could I take this build into a warfront and make a contribution there?

  13. Thank you for this guide! I just dinged 50 today using this guide from level 15! Thank you so much!

  14. Hey Dulfy, I really appreciate you having this build around. I was wondering with 1.7 if you had any thoughts on what might need to be changed around, especially with the Lightning Hammer changes, and the inclusion of Shaman’s new instant cast spell.

I’ve been following this for the last few days, and 31 levels of my Cleric career. Once again, thanks!

    • I will edit this guide to adjust w/ the 1.7 changes in a few days. Currently writing up a 51 shaman guide and once that is finished I should be free tor revise this one 🙂

      • Are you still planning to update this with 1.7 changes?

      • …or 1.8 please?

  15. this still works in 1.7, or it’s better the new default ones ?

  16. The links to the builds are all broken? Or is it just me?

    • zam updated their soul builder for 1.7 and as a result all the links are not working now. I will get it fixed asap.

      • oh its not me, the entire zam soul builder is messed up right now. cleric class shows some weird souls. Hopefully zam fix it up soon,

        • Oh, Ok thanks for the clarifications.

  17. Looking forward to the update, thanks for keeping this alive. Also wondering how well this build works in battlefronts in the 30s and 40s.

    • Good bruh. I’m level 35 and I own 39’s 1 on 1.

  18. is this leveling build from 10 to 50 still applicable after 1.7

  19. First, let me say, awesome guide. I’m new to Rift, and this has been extremely helpful. I’ve used it from about level 25 on, which is when I found it. I’ve been in Warfronts almost exclusively, with this build, and more than hold my own.

At level 40, I decided to try to level with AoE’s, to see if this worked. As i said, I am new to Rift, this is my first toon. So, I do not have a lot of cash (28pp currently), and as such, really do not have top of the line gear, from what I have seen on twinks, in the Warfronts.

At level 40, I went to Frozen Valley, in IPP. Right under the ‘O’ in the name Iron Pine Peak, on the map. I tried gathering wolves, and learned quickly, I could only handle 2 of the level 39’s. If I hit 3, I could not survive the damage. I tried over and over, and simply got crushed.

I decided to move to another location, and practice on lower mobs, in case it was just me, to learn.

I moved to Moonshade Highlands, off the coast. I had a better time, against level 36 mobs, I was able to handle 4. At 5 mobs, I couldn’t keep up, and would die. Sometimes, even 4 would overtake me. 3 I could do pretty regularly.

I was able to take down rifts on my own, and stayed the rest of the night there, getting the hang of things, and basically having fun taking on 4 mobs at once.

    So, a few questions.

    1. Is this build still viable, as it is, in 1.7?

    2. After reading that I should be able to AoE fight more at my own level, is this only with people who have other main toons, and the cash to buy top of the line gear?

To give some clarification, here are some of my stats, currently, at level 43 (I went back to Warfronts, for 3 more levels, as I feel comfortable there).

    Health: 3127
    Mana: 1929
    Armor: 1996
    Int: 94
    Dex: 83
    Str: 49
    Wisdom: 166
    End: 178
    Valor: 43
    Tough: 0
    Veng: 0

    AP: 214
    Pys Crit: 165
    Hit: 1
    Dodge: 87
    Parry: 49
    Block: 0

    SP: 148
    SC: 99
    Focus: 0

Thank you, for all your time and help. I thought I would post this, for others like me, new to Rift.

    Wrock

    • Wrock,

I was just starting out as well and had no good gear or anything, I was able to kill packs of on level mobs easily. 4-5 was no problem at all. Only issue I had was of course casters, and the trick came to be to only grab 2 of them and the rest melee.

Don’t know where you went wrong but this spec is still 100% viable 1-50

  20. I included Glacial Shield in the ST and AOE macros right after Fated Blow, for some extra protection and damage. It seems to work well. Is there something I missed that would cause this to be a bad idea?

Thanks for the guide, it’s fantastic.

  21. Thanks, this works well.
Not sure if it mentions anywhere about using a 2 hander, but I think that would be better than a an item in each hand.

  22. Any changes to this for 1.8? Or should I run it as is?

  23. Been having a problem setting up the macro for AoE at level 30. I type it as shown but it won’t let me save it. Not sure what i’m doing wrong. When I finally got it right i think, all that would trigger seemed to be Soul drain then the hotkey was greyed out on cd. when cd was over another click would only cast Soul Drain again. Made it impossible to AoE anything. I’m not all that new to the game but i’m not the “smartest” when it comes to MMO’s so some honest help would be appreciated as i am enjoying my cleric very much.

  24. simply awesome..thanks alot^^

  25. Many Thanks for all this work you have done I was getting killed so much I was running out of cash I will start a fresh one with your Spec

  26. Hey! Just another “great writeup” post here as I get ready to start levelling a cleric after getting my main (Rogue) levelled and geared!

  27. What’s Taking place i’m new to this, I stumbled upon this
I’ve discovered It absolutely useful and it has aided me out loads. I am hoping to contribute & aid different users like its aided me. Great job.

  28. having a problem when i click on the link for lvl 50 it only shows me points for lvl 35 anyone else having that problem?

  29. I was using the old Duracel build prior to the changes in Rift. I’ve come back and found Dulfy’s guide but her links for the soul tree don’t match the actual soul tree setup the link takes you to.

It appears it has not been updated for a while and what is written here is old. I would love it for Dulfy to update it but I do not think she is doing updates for Rift the moment as I’ve seen her active in GW2 now.

If anyone knows of the replacement for this Duracel build it would be great to see it posted.
