Healing 5 man–T2 Expert Abyssal Precipice

AP is one of the shorter T2 dungeons thankfully. The last boss is a bit tricky but the rest are quite straight forward.

1. Kaler Andrenos – Tank Heals – Med to High, AoE Heals – Med to High, Situation Awareness – Med

  • He will summon white circles randomly on someone, move out of the white circle. This is also a hint that Kaler will emote soon and you will need to line of sight him or he will one shot you.
  • Kaler stands next to a cave, tanks will sometime position him at the entrance to the cave, a good line of sight spot is the wall to the right of the cave entrance.
  • Kaler will emote and being casting Icy Explosion, when he finishes casting it and you are not out line of sight, you will be killed instantly.
  • The need to line of sight the boss can create a problem for tank healing if you don’t get in line of sight of the tank quick enough. Be prepared for this, pop a cooldown if you need.
  • Occasionally, Kaler will put an AoE on someone and damage those group members nearby. Be ready to pop your group heals for this.

2. Icetalon – Tank heals – Med, AoE heals – Med, Situation Awareness – Low

  • Put your back against the wall and you don’t need to move for the rest of the fight.
  • Icetalon will charge a random group members and/or lift them up into the air and throw them down. Be ready to single target heal these unfortunate group members as need.
  • Largely a tank and spank fight, there might be some dots that needs to be cleansed but nothing major.

3. Majolic the Bloodwalker – Tank Heals – Med to High, AoE heals – Med, Situation Awareness – Low, Cleanse – High!

  • Majolic has two abilities – Bood Contagion, a very powerful dot he put on a group member that needs to be cleansed asap or it will spread. The icon for it looks like a face with 3 dots on it. Have a single target cleanse for this and an AoE cleanse for this when it spreads.
  • He will also randomly put a group member into a crystal. This can be avoided if you line of sight him the moment he emotes. There is a tree stump near where Majolic is that you can stand nearby and line of sight the boss. You have to be quick though if you want to avoid being crystallized.
  • In the event you get crystallized a healer, make sure there is someone else in the party that can cleanse/heal or if not then pray your dps know what their doing and pop your group heals/AoE cleanse when you get out of the crystal.

4. Renthar – Tank Heals – Med, AoE heals – Med, Situation Awareness – Med

  • Renthar has two abilities: Frozen Yeti and a ground AoE.
  • Frozen Yeti is when he charges the person furthest away from him. As a healer, try not to stand too far from the boss or you might get charged and take damage.
  • Don’t stand too close either as Renthar will cleave and kill you if you stand right in front of him or stand in the path he runs back after he charged someone.

5. Calyx the Ancient –Tank Heals – High, AoE Heals- Very High, Situation Awareness – Very High

  • This is a very difficult fight as it requires you move constantly and heal massive AoE damage at the same time while avoiding lasers and ground effects.
  • Sent/Warden is the best for this due to mobility, you might want a support for AoE heals as well.
  • Soon after you engage Calyx, he will have lasers that go from him to one of the thingies in his area. These lasers move clockwise, if you get hit, you will be slowed and take massive damage.
  • What you want do is chase one of the lasers and follow it around. This way you are constantly moving and not at risk of the ground effect he puts on you.
  • The ground effect is a whirlpool that Calyx puts on a random party member, you need to move out of it immediately or you will be encased in an ice crystal and at risk of coming into contact with the laser and die.
  • If this is not enough, every once in awhile Calyx will cast Frozen Wrath, which is accompanied by an emote. This will take everyone down to 20%.
  • Party members have a few seconds after Frozen Wrath hits before they take anymore AoE damage, so this is a good time to top the tank off before healing the rest of the party.
  • Lastly, the boss also cast a damage shield on himself that will damage attacking players if not purged. If your dps is not so smart, they might kill themselves, especially if the shield is up after a Frozen Wrath…
  • If party members die, don’t panic! I have done this fight with all the DPS dead and it was just me and tank..duoing him. Took a long time for sure but it can be done!

Healing 5 man – T2 Expert Darkening Deeps

Hello everyone, this will be the first of a series of articles on healing 5 mans in Rift. The aim of this article series is not to replace any dungeon guides already out there. Rather, this article series is specifically tailored to healers and is short and to the point. This is very suitable for a quick glance before running dungeons or a quick recap before each boss fight.

Entrance: Darkening Deeps offer you two paths upon entering. You can go to the left (up) or right (down). Going down is a harder but shorter route. Many groups will go for the shorter route so if you are not comfortable doing so let your tank know!  The shorter route is very challenging. You will encounter mobs and lots of ground based AoEs (you have about 2-3 seconds to get out of the circle before your hp is taken down to 50%-60%). A high mobility, high AoE heal build is ideal for this. I choose to go with sent/warden.

1. Alchemist Braxterpel- Tank heal – Low to Med, AoE Heal – Low to Med, Situation Awareness – Low to Med

  • Pretty much tank and spank except you need to kill the two adds first and watch for the ground based AoE.
  • Very easy to heal.
2. Michael Bringhurst – Tank heal – Med, AoE Heal – High, Situation Awareness – None
  • Stand in one spot and heal type of fight.
  • If Michael stands in the light (rather than the shade), he will repeatedly cast an AoE that bring everyone’s hp by about 20% every second or so. It will require some heavy AoE heals and some AoE heals from a support class if necessary.
  • Michael likes to fear the group, then run to the light and does his AoE so be prepared to heal right after the fear wears off!
  • If your tank suck (i.e. does pull Michael out of light fast enough), you won’t be able to keep up with the AoE heals. It is not your fault!
3. Tegenar Deepfang – Tank Heal – Med to High, AoE heal – Med, Situation Awareness- Low
  • Mini spider adds, random party member gets cocooned and cannot do anything until the cocoon is broken! (dps dependent)
  • Stack on the spider’s butt for this fight so the tank can pick up the mini spider adds that come. This also helps when you get cocooned as your party members can just use AoEs to save you!
  • If you get cocooned it can be tricky. You might need a support healer if your tank is weak or if your group dps is low.
  • You might need to pop you big heals/cooldowns when you get cocooned.
  • Both sent/warden and sent/purifier will do fine.
  • If you are quick enough and good at reading emotes, you can pop a cooldown on the tank before you get cocooned
4. Glubmuk – Tank heal – Med, AoE heal – Med, Situation Awareness – Med
  • Tank and spank fight with two small adds and ground based AoE (hard to see)
  • Move out of those ground AoEs
5. Gedlo Conclave – Tank heal – Med to High, AoE heal – Med to High , Situation Awareness – High
  • Most parties will kill the Shaman first. The stage is largely tank and spank.
  • Once shaman is dead, the Incinerator will cast ground AoEs and the Warlord will charge random players and stun then for 3-4 seconds as well taking them to about 60% health.
  • This is when you need to do AoE heals for those who didn’t get out of ground AoEs or those who get charged.
6. Scarn – Tank Heal – Med to High, AoE heal – High, Situation Awareness – High
  • You might need a support for this fight as it can be very heal intensive.
  • Stay away from Scarn for this fight!
  • Scarn have two phases: ground and air.
  • Ground phase is pretty much tank and spank unless one of the bone piles on the ground gets lit on fire! If that happens then all party members gets a DoT that ticks away your health. Damage depends on how many bone piles get lit on the ground.
  • Before Scarn switch to the air phase he will breath fire (Flaming Breath) into the tank – so pop your Healer’s Convenant or other cooldowns if you need!
  • During the air phase, you need to constantly move because Scarn will drop projectiles on the ground (appear as red circle). If you are not moving, you may not get out of the circle in time!
  • If one of your party members get hit by the projectile, he/she might get the confusion debuff (lose control of their character and might walk into AoEs and die)  You will need to cleanse that.
  • I recommend running along the curvature of the room, make sure your party members are running in the same direction as you.
  • More bone piles will light on fire during the air phase, this will make the DoT on party members tick harder.
  • When Scarn lands, you need to have cooldowns ready as well as the DoT tick on the tank and hits Scarn will can cause the tank drop pretty quick!
  • Healer with high mobility and high AoE heals is recommended (Sent/warden build is perfect).

Healing 5 mans- T2 Expert Charmer’s Caldera

Hello everyone, this will be the first of a series of articles on healing 5 mans in Rift. The aim of this article series is not to replace any dungeon guides already out there. Rather, this article series is specifically tailored to healers and is short and to the point. This is very suitable for a quick glance before running dungeons or a quick recap before each boss fight.

1. Smouldaron – AoE heal – low to med, Tank heal – Med, Situation awareness – Med

  • He cleaves, drops bombs on the ground on random players (red circle on ground)and summon some adds.
  • Not much AoE healing unless one of your group members does not move out of the bombs.
  • Low mobility, just need to move out of bombs.
  • Sent/Purifier & Sent/warden will do fine.
2. Cyclorax- AoE heal – very high, Tank heal – Med, Situation awareness – Very High
  • If your group is comprised of mostly ranged dps, healing this encounter will be a bit easier but not much.
  • Cyclorax will have an emote (Cyclonic Destruction) throughout of the fight that everyone including the tank will need to get away from the boss. Failure to do so will result in one shots (have battle rez prepared for tank in case he/she missed it). In other words, range this boss!
  • Cyclorax will also shoot out spears that does significant AoE damage (about 1/4 to 1/3 of max health)
  • 3 lasers will also swipe across the room, here is their pattern (image courtesy of Riftjunkies).
  • They do massive damage if a player gets hit by it. 
  • In summary: Watch for emotes from boss, dodge lasers, be ready to do massive AoE heal to counter lasers/spears.
  • High mobility heal spec preferred (sent/warden perfect for this). Don’t be shy to ask your support to help you out with the AoE heals!
  • Trick: If your party is mostly comprised of ranged dps, everyone excluding the tank can hug the left wall of Cyclorax’s room and get into the little corner at the place where the left wall meets the back wall. You won’t have to dodge lasers here but you will still get hit by spears from the named and tank still need to move away from Cyclorax on emote (might have some LoS issues here). This might get nerfed soon!
3. Ryka Dharvos AoE heal – med, Tank heal – Med, Situation awareness – Med
  • Very similar fight to Smouldaron with one addition: lasers. Only the burning end of the lasers on the ground do damage, the rest of the laser does no damage.
  • Avoid ground AoEs, dodge lasers and kill adds.
  • Lasers can make this fight a bit AoE heal intensive if a player in your group gets hit by it.
  • Sent/Purifier and Sent/warden are fine.
4. Gronik  AoE heal – med, Tank heal – Med, Situation awareness – Low
  • Two adds come with this boss, they will put a pulsing stun on a random player which they will need to get away from other party members.
  • The adds will also randomly target a party member and do some significant damage so be ready to switch off tank to heal other members.
  • Gronik gains a stacking buff overtime to increase his damage so you might need big tank heals towards the end!
  • Gronik will also put a damage shield on him that will damage everyone that attacks him unless it is purged! If no one is purging be ready with AoE heals!
  • Sent/Purifier and Sent/Warden are fine.
5. Jultharin AoE Heal- very low. Tank Heal – Med, Situation awareness – None
  • Pure tank and spank fight with a dps check component
  • He doesn’t hit hard and has very small periodic AoEs.
  • Easy boss if you got the dps!
6. Caelia the Stormtouched AoE Heal- very high . Tank Heal – Med to High , Situation awareness – Med
  • This fight requires heavy AoE heals but not alot of movemnt.
  • Put your back toward the wall as the boss does a knockback ability.
  • Caelia will also put a DoT on a group member that needs to be cleansed.
  • Four phase to this fight: 1) tank and spank 2) Caelia goes immune and summon adds 3) Caelia summons a rotating lighting thingie 4) Caelia grasp everyone into the air and then do a massive knockback
  • For phase 2 you want to run to the tank so he/she can pick up the adds easily.
  • Phase 3 can be healed through, just put your back to the wall. The lighting only does about 20% of your health if it hits you.
  • Phase 4 is where the massive AoE heals come in. When Caelia does the knockback, everyone’s health will drop to 30% or below. It is important to top up everyone’s health to full before this phase begins. As soon everyone lands on the ground, pop your AoE heals and keep strong heals on the tank as he/she will be also taking direct damage from Caelia.
  • Sent/Warden is ideal spec for this fight as you can pop your Healing Flood/Healing Showers/Ripple before you even hit the ground  in phase 4.
